Introduction

This page contains data originally from the SHDB for over 700 different super heroes.

The data visualizations that follow give a high-level overview of the data and clicking on the individual charts allows you to filter the results.

Once you have made your selections, you can look at the dropdown below to see who you have left.

Or maybe you just want to view the stats of a single hero? Choose one below and the page will display information for just that hero.

If a chart shows as empty, or doesn't add up to the same total as another charts filter, this is normal. Some heroes have a small number of missing attributes. The charts will automatically filter out blank data if there is something else to show.

This is intentional, and designed to preserve the integrity of the original dataset.

Gender

A lot of the entries in this data set are from heroes who first appeared as early as the 1930's, therefore it's not overly surprising to see men outnumber women by 2.5 to 1.

Throughout this page, where you see the word 'guys', this is used to refer to the super heroes as a whole, and is not intended to be gender specific.

Alignment

The good guys outnumber the rest by almost 2 to 1 - makes you wonder how they make it look so difficult all the time!

When filtering by male & female, there is a clear difference. 1 in 3 males are bad, but for females it's less than 1 in 5.

Super Hero Attributes

The line charts above show the 6 main attributes ranked from 0 to 100. The charts record the frequency of each attribute across all heroes.

There is a lot that can be taken away from these charts but what is immediately noticeable is the spike in the strength attribute at the lower levels. This would imply a lot of heroes rely on their super powers and combat ability over raw strength, and this assumption appears to be backed up by data in the rest of the chart.

Additionally, the lack of any 'intellectually challenged' superheroes, those with an intelligence attribute of 30 or lower, and also the surge at 70 and above, reinforces the observation that our heroes prefer brains over brawn.

Height

No real surprises here, the vast majority of our heroes are between 1m and 2m tall, with very few extremes either side of 1m and 3m.

If we look at just the tall guys, those over 2m high, you can see a slight shift in the attribute spread towards the higher values, indicating that generally, the taller you are, the better your attributes.

Weight

Weight distribution amongst our heroes is a little more evenly distributed than their heights.

The taller / more powerful connection from the height chart carries over to the weights too. Looking at just heroes over 120kg, you can see the heavier guys most definitely retain the better attribute spread.

Alter Ego

A little over a quarter of our heroes have alter egos. There doesn't seem to be much link with the other areas, although if you're part of the Marvel universe, your chances of having an alter ego rise to 1 in 3.

Also, lending some credibility to the old saying that 'blonds have more fun' is the fact that your chances of having an alter ego go up to 40% if your hair color is blond.

Hair Color

Most of our heroes seem to be playing it safe with their choice of hair color, with over 60% opting for a traditional black, blond, or brown color.

Even safer still, heroes with blond hair, have a massive 85% chance of having blue eyes.

Eye Color

Much like their hair, there are very few risks with eye color too, with 3 out of 4 heroes having blue, brown, or green eyes.

Random fact, heroes who weigh less than 60kg are almost twice as likely to have green eyes than their heavier counterparts.

There's more! If you have red eyes, you have a 42% chance of being bald. I don't know why either.

Publisher

Surprising absolutely nobody at all, Marvel runs away with the prize for most superheroes. DC Comics comes in second with just over half of Marvels count. No other publisher even comes close.
